UPDATE FROM THE MAYOR
As a general rule, I do not engage on social media in my role as Mayor. However, I feel it is important to address a couple of posts circulating regarding the upcoming Clearwater City Council meeting on Tuesday.
It has been suggested that the meeting will include discussion of “concerns” related to the TED solar panels planned north of Clearwater. This is not accurate. There is no agenda item regarding this topic, and the City Council does not have plans to discuss nor taking any action on the solar project at this meeting.
City Council meetings are public, and anyone is welcome to attend. However, the agenda is limited to matters within the City’s authority. While I fully respect and encourage residents to voice their opinions, it is important to understand that the City does not have jurisdiction over the approval process for these solar projects.
For those who wish to provide input where it will have the most impact, I encourage you to contact Sedgwick County Commissioner Jeff Blubaugh. According to his recent newsletter, the Wichita-Sedgwick County Metropolitan Area Planning Department will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, April 29, at 9:00 a.m. to consider a solar application from Mission Clean Energy (Galena Project).
This meeting will include an opportunity for public comment and is expected to last several hours. It will be held at the Ronald Reagan Building, located at 271 W. 3rd Street North. Those wishing to speak do not need to sign up in advance. For more information visit planning@wichita.gov or contact Brad Eatherly at 316-352-4864.
