KDHE Issues Harmful Algae Warning
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has issued a Warning for this waterbody due to harmful algae being expected or present. Exposure to harmful algal blooms can cause illness in both people and animals.
Safety Precautions:
- Avoid areas where algae are accumulating.
- If people or pets come into contact with the water, wash thoroughly with clean, potable water afterward.
- Do not allow people or animals to drink untreated water or consume dried algae.
- Fish may be eaten if they are cleaned thoroughly and the guts are discarded.
If Exposure Occurs
Contact a doctor or veterinarian if people or animals experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rash, irritated eyes, seizures, breathing problems, or other unexplained illnesses following contact with the water.
