Clearwater, Kan. – Effective immediately, the Clearwater Fire Department has implemented a burn ban within the City of Clearwater and its fire protection area including Ninnescah Township and all of Sumner County.

The burn ban is being implemented due to the current dangerous fire conditions, including extremely dry conditions, higher-than-normal temperatures, low humidity and typical windy conditions. Should a grass or wildland fire occur, it could spread rapidly and pose significant challenges for firefighters and surrounding properties.

The burn ban includes the following regulations:

• No outdoor burning is allowed, including open burning, burn barrels, chimeneas and other outdoor fireplaces.
• Active burn permits are suspended, and no new burn permits will be issued while the ban is in effect.
• The burn ban does not include fires used for food preparation, such as barbecue grills.

This burn ban will remain in effect until conditions improve significantly. The Clearwater Fire Department will continue to monitor fire-weather conditions and evaluate the status of the burn ban on a regular basis.

Residents are reminded to use extreme caution with any potential sources of ignition and to help prevent wildland fires by maintaining their property and avoiding activities that could cause a fire to start or spread.

Violations of the burn ban will be taken seriously, and violators may be subject to citation or other enforcement action.
